Femi Adelusi, President Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) has reaffirmed the role of implementation and regulation as means to stimulate growth and economic development.
He made this assertion during the 2022 MIPAN Annual General Meeting (AGM) with the theme: “The Role of Data and Technology in Economic Development” held recently at Marriott Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

Delivering his welcome speech, Adelusi noted that the smartest way to address the economic, political, and social challenges faced by the nation is through enhanced innovation, data, and technology adoption.
His words: “The fastest and smartest way out of the economic, political and social challenges (described by some as extra Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous, VUCA) that our nation faces today can be accelerated by innovative breakthroughs and pivotal opportunities that data & technology offers.”

“Nigeria Start-Up Bill 2021 aimed at providing for the creation and development of an enabling environment for technology-enabled start- ups provide some hope that with proper implementation and regulations, we can stimulate technology driven growth in the economy.
He said further that this is a welcome development as it will stimulate the digital economy that will enhance economic expansion & increase opportunities for youth empowerment and business growth.

While talking of how some members of MIPAN have been able to leverage data and technology, he said a member will soon launch a media NFT platform while another member is partnering with global FinTech companies, adding that there will be more partnership deals from the agencies.
“Our members are re-looking at our businesses and positioning to take advantage of opportunities in the Data and Technology space. One of our members will be launching a Media NFT platform in a few weeks and another will be announcing a FinTech affiliate with global backing by Amazon, IBM, Google and Blockchain Accelerator. The next year will see even more technology driven partnerships and services from our agencies. MIPAN will continue to collaborate, share and support these initiatives.”

According to him MIPAN has revised its full membership criteria and initiated a digital agency membership category for recognizing the technology and digital trend in the industry and how the practice is evolving.
“Many of our Agencies today now have Digital Agency departments or Affiliate Digital agencies with specialization in content development, online advertising strategy/planning, social media influencer management, Big data positioning/management, AI & Machine learning tools for strategy development & decision making.”
