SO&U boss tasks marketers on business ethics

The Group Managing Director/CEO of SO&U Limited,  Sir Udeme Ufot has advised marketers  and organisational leaders on the need to give prime place to healthy ethical behaviors if they were to drive positive growth in their businesses.

Addressing a convergence of marketing professional and business leaders who gathered for the second term investiture of Tony Agenmonmen as President and Chairman of Council of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) in Lagos, Udeme noted that lack of healthy ethical considerations constituted a serious bane in the quest by major businesses to attain the much desired growth and development.

Speaking on the theme, “Ethics and Sustainability in Marketing”, Udeme who was guest speaker of the investiture night observed that most Nigerian businesses were constantly buffeted by turbulent head winds that challenge their daily existence and theirs sense of moral values hence, many companies have therefore established a set of shared values and principles that can serve as moral compass in navigating the unpredictable waters that is the Nigerian business environment.

Dwelling on the National Institute of Management definition of ethics as “a set of moral principles used by the organisation to steer conduct of the organisation itself and the employee, in all business activities both internally and externally” the agency boss highlighted what he considered as basic ethical consideration which were necessary in guiding any business organization towards attaining success and sustainability in their business endeavours.

“In their partnership for brand building, marketers and their agencies must nurture and sustain responsible relationship with their consumers that are anchored on transparency, integrity, respect and genuine commitment to values and aspirations of the consumer,” he said.
