UBA joins global initiative for carbon accounting in banking

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Africa’s leading financial institution, has been accepted as a member of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF).
It is the only bank from West Africa among the 14 members of the global core team representing various regions.
This recognition reflects UBA’s commitment to sustainable finance, and as a core team member, the bank will contribute to the development of international accounting standards for the industry.
PCAF’s CEO, Ace Robinson, applauded UBA and the new core team members for their outstanding contributions. He highlighted UBA as the only bank from West Africa on the global core team, emphasizing the bank’s alignment with PCAF standards.
“UBA stood out exceptionally after a rigorous application process, which attracted over 50 highly qualified candidates from across the PCAF signatory community, said Robinson.
UBA’s inclusion in this prestigious global team demonstrates its dedication to promoting the Carbon Accounting agenda.
Chidozie Ezike, UBA’s Head of Sustainability, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a PCAF member. He emphasized UBA’s focus on inclusivity, social responsibility, decarbonization, responsible business practices, and strong governance.
Ezike stressed that sustainability is a strategic priority for UBA, driving economic, social, and environmental value throughout the bank’s value chain. He reiterated the bank’s purpose-driven approach in ensuring Africa’s long-term well-being.
Ezike said, “We remain a purpose-driven organization dedicated to Africa’s long-term wellbeing and to generating social economic and environmental value, which is an outcome we regard just as important as our financial results.”
With UBA’s participation in the PCAF global core team, the bank is set to deepen its engagement with the standards and contribute to greater international consistency and comparability in financed emission accounting.
