Reposition photojournalism beyond cliché – Ajayi tasks GPJN
John Ajayi, Managing Director/CEO of the MARKETING EDGE Group/ Publisher of MARKETING EDGE magazine, has tasked the Lagos State chapter of Guild of Photojournalists Nigeria (GPJN) on the need to go beyond the cliché and reposition photojournalism in Nigeria. He also applauded the association for taking the profession beyond prebendalism and finding truth beneath ready-made narratives in a contemporary social media-oriented landscape.
Addressing members of the Guild who paid an introductory visit to him at MARKETING EDGE’s Lagos office, Mr. Ajayi challenged photojournalists to do more in a digitally competitive world. He advised the GPJN members to aim at perfection, stressing that, even though perfection is unattainable, they may attain excellence in the process.
“I’m very, very delighted that the emergence of photojournalism has revolutionized the face and practice of the profession in Nigeria. I must also say that your maiden award ceremony was quite promising. Unfortunately, I couldn’t honour it with my presence because of my numerous engagements.
“However, our representative at the event reported that it was a beautiful outing with glitz and glamour. I want to assure you that by partnering with us this year, your event will record outstanding success. MARKETING EDGE does not believe in failure. Whatever we do, we do it with passion. Even though we have had unpleasant experiences while partnering with some Guilds in the past, we hope yours wouldn’t be like that,” he said.
Abiodun Ajala, Chairman, Lagos chapter of PJAN, in his speech expressed gratitude for the privilege of earning the support and encouragement of Mr. Ajayi since the inception of the association.
“We infinitely appreciate you for your unconditional love and transformative leadership which, over the years, have endeared you to the mass media community, as well as to the commercial and industrial establishment of business moguls.
“Within the space of close to two decades and across 30 years of media experience, you have proven to the mass media community that you are a stellar scion of the sector and also a patriotic leader and entrepreneur,” he said.
Describing Mr. Ajayi as a veteran journalist, innovative entrepreneur and the amiable publisher of Nigeria’s leading marketing and advertising magazine, MARKETING EDGE, PJAN noted that he has commendably helped broaden the borders of prosperous productivity for the overall socioeconomic development of the country.
The association said it did not pay the visit only to honour MARKETING EDGE with wealth of gratitude, but also to draw intimately from Mr. Ajayi’s entrepreneurial strengths and values in its quest for sustainable and profitable management of skills and professional resources as the corporate pride of photojournalism in Nigeria.
“By virtue of your unwavering pursuit of excellence in the handling of the marketing and advertising industry, we are sure that you would be formally guiding us through to relate purposefully and profitably with the big business players in the commercial and industrial sectors.
“With this formalization of our synergy, we promise to assiduously keep pace with your corporate pursuit of entrepreneurial excellence. As we look forward to our annual conference cum photo and arts exhibition, we shall be counting on your support to ensure a bright, beautiful and highly marketable outing,” he concluded.
