Seaman’s Schnapps, Nigeria’s number one prayer drink, took centre stage at the 2026 Ogun Festival, popularly known as the Ekimogun Festival, in the ancient city of Ondo, reaffirming its commitment to preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage and driving the nation’s growing cultural renaissance.

The annual festival, deeply rooted in the traditions of the Ondo Kingdom and dedicated to Ogun, the Yoruba deity of iron, war, and creativity, attracted dignitaries, tourists, and indigenes from across Ondo State, Nigeria, and the diaspora. The city came alive with colourful carnivals, traditional drumming, prayers for peace and prosperity, and cultural displays led by chiefs and traditional rulers.
Widely regarded as one of the most vibrant editions in recent years, the 2026 festival successfully blended age-old traditions with modern experiences, strong tourism appeal, and immersive brand activations, with Seaman’s Schnapps proudly serving as the lead sponsor and official prayer drink.
A significant highlight occurred on the eve of the grand finale when the Seaman’s Schnapps team paid a courtesy visit to the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo. During the visit, the brand presented an honorarium and a specially commissioned portrait to the monarch as a demonstration of respect for the traditional institution and the rich cultural heritage of the Ekimogun people.

The visit set the tone for a series of carefully curated activations that positioned Seaman’s Schnapps not merely as a sponsor, but as a genuine partner in cultural preservation and community development.
One of the festival’s standout attractions was the Seaman’s Schnapps Ayo Olopon Competition, held at Odo Ajomu. The traditional board game competition drew enthusiastic participation from both men and women and attracted large crowds of spectators. Participants competed for exciting prizes in an atmosphere filled with excitement, nostalgia, and meaningful consumer engagement rooted in cultural relevance.
The brand’s Prayer Hut also emerged as a major attraction, providing a vibrant space where festival-goers interacted with the brand, took photographs with branded caps and hand flags, and shared their experiences across social media, amplifying the festival’s reach beyond the event grounds.
In a deliberate effort to strengthen its connection with younger adult consumers, Seaman’s Schnapps also showcased its new 20cl SKU through a branded media wall experience. Positioned as a modern complement to the traditional 3cl offering, the media wall served as both a product showcase and an engaging photo destination that encouraged user-generated content and expanded the brand experience. Product sampling throughout the festival provided attendees with the opportunity to enjoy the product firsthand while associating it with the spirit of celebration and cultural pride.
The grand finale featured a captivating performance by a Seaman’s-supported cultural troupe, dressed in traditional regalia and performing dance routines and eulogies in homage to Ogun and the Ondo Kingdom around the Osemawe’s Palace.
The celebration also brought local culinary traditions to life through a lively Pounded Yam Competition, where participants showcased their skill and speed in the age-old practice of pounding yam. The activity transformed a familiar cultural tradition into an engaging community spectacle that attracted widespread participation and excitement.
The cultural experience continued with an eating competition, where contestants competed to consume freshly prepared pounded yam and efo riro. Beyond the contest itself, the event celebrated the communal values deeply embedded in local food traditions, bringing people together to share, participate, and celebrate a cherished aspect of their heritage.

Winners of both competitions received gifts from Seaman’s Schnapps, further reinforcing the brand’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions and supporting community engagement.
Speaking at the festival, Nnenna Uche-Onyenacho, Senior Brand Manager, Nigeria Distilleries Limited (NDL), described the Ekimogun Festival as a strong reflection of the values that define Seaman’s Schnapps.
“The Ogun Festival is a celebration of strength, creativity, and identity, values that are at the very heart of what Seaman’s Schnapps represents as Nigeria’s original prayer drink. We are honoured to stand with the Ekimogun people in preserving and promoting a heritage that belongs not only to Ondo but to all Nigerians.”
She further emphasized that the brand’s participation extends beyond visibility and sponsorship.
“Our presence here is not about a logo on a banner. It is about being part of a living culture and helping to preserve and pass it on to future generations.”
Also speaking at the event, Gbemileke Lawal, Marketing Manager, Nigeria Distilleries Limited, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to supporting Nigeria’s cultural institutions and traditional festivals.
He noted that NDL’s continued investment in the Ekimogun Festival and other major cultural celebrations across the country reflects a deliberate philosophy that views culture not as a backdrop for commercial activities, but as a living expression of Nigerian identity deserving of sustained corporate stewardship.
Lawal expressed pride in Seaman’s Schnapps’ growing role as a champion of authentic Nigerian culture, connecting communities across the Niger Delta, Yorubaland, and beyond.
The Osemawe, Oba Kiladejo, used the occasion to call on government at all levels to intensify efforts toward preserving indigenous heritage. He encouraged state and local governments to support and institutionalise local festivals as a means of strengthening tourism and cultural development.
Palace spokesperson Chief Wole Benson described Ondo City as being in full carnival mode throughout the festival period, while Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, described the festival as a proud symbol of the identity and values of the Ondo people.
As the celebrations concluded with prayers and thanksgiving, Seaman’s Schnapps reaffirmed its commitment to supporting major cultural festivals across Nigeria as part of its broader mission to champion authentic Nigerian culture and inspire new generations to embrace and celebrate their roots.
The 2026 Ekimogun Festival has set a new benchmark for cultural celebration, and Seaman’s Schnapps remains committed to helping raise that standard even higher in the years ahead.
