Ose Osundeko: The rise of a digital rebel

For Ose Osundeko, the present job offer at Fidelity Bank as Group Head of the Digital Business cannot be said to be a happenstance. Reason? She is a certified digital rebel. With a Masters Distinction certification in strategic marketing of the renowned Durham University Business School, Durham, UK, the restless but relentless marketing Amazon has earlier in life equipped and armed herself with requisite skills and competencies that would serve her aim and purpose in her chosen digital and marketing career. Talking about degrees and credentials, Ose Osundeko’s resume is hard to beat and of course an irresistible item to appreciate by a discerning employer of labour in a marketing world that thrives on creative disruptions. Truth be told, Osundeko’s curriculum vitae reads like a fictional biography, but it’s a true representation of her academic accomplishments and professional laurels.

The Webster University, Wales trained B.Sc degree in Economics and a First class B.A Hons Degree holder in management with special emphasis in marketing and minors in psychology and media communication acquired degrees as if she was actually in academic competition with herself. This pedigree no doubt makes this iconic, petit, humane and humble persona a curious professional object for assessment and review by MARKETING EDGE’s hagiographers.

She has been an exciting and engaging personality all her life. Her early romance with the digital world started in 2009 at Listen Fundraising after which she was appointed Digital Centre Manager at Wild Fusion Digital Centre. Her primary roles and responsibilities were centred on developing and implementing digital marketing strategies and ensuring compliance to budget while performing monthly forecasts on plans. She also worked, developing prospects and clients profiling amongst several other tasks. All of these have been made possible with the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute based in Ireland, June 2014.

If what she achieved at Wild Fusion Digital Centre was an icing on the cake, her exploits at Insight Redefini Group, where she was Head, Digital Marketing (Starcom Media Perspectives), Digital Acceleration Lead (Insight Publicis) were remarkably unbeatable in the annals of career growth. There, she played the leadership role of leading the digital team covering display advertising, organic and paid search, content marketing, email marketing and CRM, mobile marketing, digital analytics, tech development and budgetary control of all digital marketing activities.

Besides, she played pivotal role in leading a portfolio of global brand and national brands worth over two billion naira (N2bn), including Coca-Cola, Mondelez, Visa Card, ARM and Samsung amongst several other tasks and eadeavours. It is to her credit that while at Insight Redefini, the Year-on-Year growth in profitability of digital services, attained 120% growth between January to December 2016.

She structured the team to ensure specialisation of skills and optimum collaboration in servicing clients. Similarly, she brilliantly implemented processes that ensured media partners invoices were received on time so that the agency could bill clients on due dates while ensuring that agency cash cow was healthy and media partners were paid promptly. To justify the confidence management reposed in her, she was the only non-director level personnel to be appointed as a member of the execute management team. These and many more landmark career achievements no doubt attracted the management of Fidelity Bank Plc to hire her as Group Digital Head of the irrepressible and vibrant financial brand.

In this new task, Ose Osundeko will be charged with the responsibility of managing a team of digital marketing managers accountable for defining the digital marketing strategy for the bank, product and services, engaging customers digitally to build brand love and affinity, and providing best-in-class customer experiences across all digital touch-points which are all aimed at materialising the bank’s aspirations in becoming a Tier 1 bank by 2022.

This cerebral professional has her hands in other pies as well. A forensic review of her past exploits revealed that she was once behind the Empowerment Initiative for Women – Empowering Women with Technology.

Based on the belief that any attempt to improve the quality of life of people in developing countries will be incomplete without progress towards empowering women, she conceptualised and birthed the ‘Empowering Women with Technology (EWT) initiative.

EWT aimed at promoting economic empowerment of women in Nigeria by leveraging technology productively for learning and commercial activities that lead to financial gains.

The initiative was launched on International Women’s Day in 2015 with an event sponsored by a leading financial brand in the country alongside Wild Fusion Digital Centre. It brought together over thirty leading women with a desire to change the course of women and make things happen for them with technology. The event was chaired by Oby Ezekwesili (former Presidential Aspirant, Minister of Education and VP, World Bank Africa), Omobola Johnson, (former Minister for Communication Technology) and Iquo Ukoh (popular food blogger and CEO of Entod Marketing).

To further demonstrate her restless quest to live a proficient and purpose-driven life, Ose Osundeko is poised to meaningfully disrupt Nigeria’s nonprofit sector. She would be bringing to bear, her business-like practices and marketing acumen on the sector via her organisation, Right Hand Advisory, dedicated to helping non-profits achieve their individual objectives and roles in the society starting from January 2020. Ose believes that the professionalisation of the nonprofit sector will mark a paradigm shift and bring about the integration of career ideals and values into the everyday world of nonprofit-making work.
