NIMN set to kick-start mentorship programme

The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, NIMN, is set to begin its mentorship programme for students and young marketing professionals who newly joined the marketing profession.

The President, NIMN, Tony Agenmonmen, who disclosed this during an interactive session with newsmen in Lagos, stressed that the mentorship programme would be given the utmost priority in his second term in office as the president of the institute. He argued that the programme was necessary to groom both the students and the young marketing professionals to learn the nitty-gritty of the marketing profession.

According to him:“We will execute the mentorship programme; not just for the students but even for our young marketing professionals because I grew up in a system where we had a lot of people in the industry who ran programmes and courses that I benefitted from and all the different kind of exposures that we got.”

“So, part of our plans is that we are going to run a mentorship programme both for students and especially for the young people who are just entering the marketing profession.”

The NIMN President further added that the crop of marketing professionals in Nigeria today are doing great jobs but lamented that at the junior management level, a lot of the professionals need training and exposure to function properly hence the need for the mentorship programme.

He explained further: “If you are talking about the marketing professionals; I think that they are pulling their weights; I think that they are doing well.”

Mr. Agenmonmen expressed optimism in mentorship arguing it would help the greenhorns in the industry.

“A lot of our marketing professionals need training and exposure and that is why we are coming up with the programme of mentorship for our young marketing professionals so that we can attach them to the
experienced professionals in the industry that can mentor them and
take them on the path of professional marketing.”
