With the launch of 30 Compressed Natural Gas buses by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has pleaded to players in the advertising and media industry to fuel campaign for the initiative.

The buses, which were acquired from Innoson Motors, are part of presidential initiatives to reduce the transportation burden imposed on Nigerians through the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration.

While launching the buses at the presidential Villa, the president revealed that utilising natural gas to power the nation’s transportation industry would reduce transportation costs, enhance productivity and save the nation trillions of naira spent on the importation of petrol and diesel.

Addressing the newsmen at the venue, Mohammed Idris tasked advertising and media practitioners to leverage their various platforms and creativity to mobilise Nigerians to embrace the CNG initiative of the Federal Government.

According to him, the CNG drive offers a promising solution capable of reducing transportation costs by more than 50 percent, saying it is not only affordable but environmentally friendly.

“I want to plead with my colleagues in both the media and advertising industry to use their role to create compelling and informative campaigns to educate the public about the benefits of the CNG and encourage widespread adoption.

“The government has ramped up the provision of CNG stations across the country, the construction of conversion centre in partnership with private companies,” the minister stated.

The locally manufactured buses were donated to the Federal Government by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Each of the buses has the capacity to transport 100 passengers and they also have alternative use of diesel.
