Gala sausage roll is sponsoring MARKETING EDGE on its 2023 NATIONAL MARKETING SUMMIT and MARKETING EDGE BRANDS & ADVERTISING EXCELLENCE AWARDS, scheduled to take place on the 15th and 16th of September, 2023.

Gala, a household name that has acquired a generic status, made its entry into the Nigerian market in 1962, as the first brand from the stables of UAC Foods. Gala is the most well-known snack brand in Nigeria today a brand that has earned the status of a true Nigerian icon. Before wafers and cream crackers, there was Gala sausage roll. The brand commands 60 percent market share with the remaining 40 percent of the market split between competitors such as UTC’s ‘Chopsy. ‘Meaty from Leventis and ‘Eefy from Chi.

Despite the introduction of competing brands, no other sausage roll brand has the pedigree and instant recognisability of Gala, achieved through years of delivering quality and great taste at an unbeatable price. Gala remains the undisputed ‘people’s snack with consumers referring to all other sausage roll brands by the now generic name “Gala”.

Gala employs an intensified distribution strategy nationwide whilst striving to increase market penetration to other strategic channels.

Mobile retailers are a primary channel for reaching consumers, particularly in cities that experience high traffic congestion. Gala clearly appeals not just to children but also to adult commuters and other people on-the-go and loyal Gala fans aged 8 to 35 years, who count on Gala as a quick and nutritious stop-gap between meals. UAC Foods, makers of Gala, is firmly focused on increasing its dominance of the branded sausage roll market.

From Ibadan to Warri, Kaduna to Enugu, the children who grew up eating Gala sausage rolls are today’s bankers, doctors and parents who are just as happy to give their own children the tasty and filling snack as they were to eat Gala sausage roll is the first Nigerian packaged fast food snack.

The first Gala factory was located in Ijora, Lagos with a handful of production workers. As the brand quickly gained popularity, it faced serious capacity issues; it was produced only twice a week, resulting in inadequate supply to meet consumer’s demands.

Over the years, however, various technical and product innovations have resulted in increased production to meet demand and an increased shelf life of ten days.

In October 1998, Gala was re-launched to increase the value offered to consumers through product improvement and an increase in the size of each sausage roll from 70 grams to 80 grams. Gala constantly strives to exceed consumers’ expectations, giving them satisfaction, consistent quality and value they can always count on.
