Marketing Institute bares fangs on non-professionals

As the new leadership of National institute of marketing of Nigeria, NIMN gets set to launch into action, fresh facts are beginning to emerge that the administration may be introducing a new order in sanitizing the profession which seems to be full of quacks and all comers.

Feelers emerged in the industry that the Tony Agenmonmen led administration has put machinery in motion to ensure that professionalism is at the core of the profession.

To this end, it was learn’t that the administration was already taking steps which will begin in earnest as it has vowed to wield big sticks on quacks in the profession.

Specifically, the institute which is chartered by the Act 25 of the Parliament, 2008 is poised to enact and assert its chartered powers in all totality by ensuring strict regulation, control of marketing practice and the practice of marketing in Nigeria.

Sources outside the institute disclosed that plans are already afoot to embark on a massive media campaign to first of all, sensitize registered practitioners and non-registered practitioners in the trade on what should be their roles and duties but that failure to adhere would be met with heavy sanction by the professional body.

Beyond this, the source also noted that other steps to be taken include visitations to corporate entities where information on the need to have their employees duly certified would be provided, as failure to do so may lead to enforcement of the institute’s charter penalty on the practitioners and employers of labour in corporate organisations like insurance companies, banks, media houses and some fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies.

Findings revealed that the secretariat is already apprehensive or jittery on what to expect as the new administration swung into action with many of them not sure of what may befall them in the event that a surgical operation or restructuring is undertaken.

It would be recalled that the new president had promised during electioneering campaign to embark on a holistic ‘surgical’ rejuvenation of the institute’s secretariat with a view to ensuring true professionalism as charity must be seen to begin from home.

One of the sources who is also a fellow of the institute noted that the Agenmonmen was already burning with passion for action to change the face of the institute as he has vowed to ensure that promises made prior to the election are fulfilled.

He said” He is seriously concerned about the state of the institute and has already hit the ground running. I am sure in no distant time, the profession will be something to be proud of. As we speak, he has been making moves to ensure that the institute takes its rightful place. We all know that marketing lost its fortune the moment the institute became factionalised. Now, that the issue is settled and a need to move forward has become imperative, I am optimistic that Agenmonmen would achieve that desire that we have been clamouring for”

It would be recalled that Tony Agenmonmen emerged the president of NIMN following the withdrawal of his opponent,Rotimi Olaniyan, a former vice President of the institute.Aside him, notable professionals were also elected into the board. They include Yahaya Fufure, Kachi Onabogu, among others.
