Upsetting Google will take ruthless market penetration strategies – Olusesi

Addressing the ongoing debate in the tech space on the possibility of ChatGPT, a natural language processing model designed for conversational applications, overthrowing search giant Google, Oyindolapo Olusesi, founder, Mustarred Crest has said that it will take ruthless market penetration strategies for the new AI technology to possibly take on Google Search.

“Upsetting a tool like Google will take some ruthless market penetration strategies. It’s like what Harmony OS is trying to do to Android and Apple OSes. It’ll be hard, though not impossible. My guess is that the charm is layered in the moist brand of notoriety and customer experience,” he shared in a submission.

Meanwhile, earlier, in the heat of the corporate debate where the majority of professionals insisted that ChatGPT cannot compete with Google, others had predicted a buyout. (Read previous post https://marketingedge.com.ng/2023-will-be-a-very-interesting-year-for-ai-and-search-martins/)

Olusesi shared: “News that Microsoft is merging ChatGPT to its Bing’s search engine sparked analysis about the potential impacts on Alphabet Inc.‘s Google search engine. Of course, Google’s dominance is about to be tested for the first time in almost two decades. China’s Baidu, MS’s Bing have tried but failed. The mojo of Google is that it has more sites in its index. You get more relevant responses on Google. Why not, when every business optimises its content/websites for Google searches (aka. SEO). In all, Google is to search, what Windows OS is to PCs. It’s a household name, so much that “to google” is an acceptable expression for “to search. But that is soon to change, right? I’m not so convinced. At least, not yet.”

Where Google Search utilises complex algorithms to index, and rank websites based on their relevance while providing users with highly accurate and relevant search results for a wide range of queries, ChatGPT is primarily focused on generating human-like responses to specific text prompts.

The OpenAI Chatbot has also flagged some ethical and privacy concerns such as inaccurate responses, and its potential to create fake news and other misleading content.

Olusesi revealed: “A concern, however, is that ChatGPT has been reported to return false results and formulate hypotheses that do not hitherto exist. For it, it seems more like a “genius” that knows it all. Woe betide that it has no response to anything. This raises concerns of trusts. In any case, besides the trust concern, I’m also concerned about privacy.”

He continued: “Google returns a high number of relevant results in a short period of time. However, I still have to click to distil the information. If Bing now goes the extra mile to summarise the most important information I’m looking for based on my query, then voila! Jackpot secured. Another challenge for Bing would be in making Bing the primary search tool in an Android dominated market.”
