Ahead of the 2022 edition of the Lagos International Trade Fair, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry LCCI has assured the event is poised to stimulate economic growth for the country as well as foster international trade relations.

Leye Kupoluyi Chairman, Trade Promotion Board, LCCI,  gave this assurance during a media parley at the LCCI office in Alausa today.

According to him, the theme of the international event which will be declared open by His Excellency- President Muhammadu Buhari-remains, “Connecting Businesses, Creating Value”. And the event will hold at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos from Friday 4th to Sunday 13th November 2022.

He said: “We want to assure all of you that this year’s event will be far better, bigger, safer, and more prosperous for all of us. This optimism, among other reasons, is largely because the global pandemic which had impacted negatively on the fair in the past two editions has now been effectively curtailed to the barest minimum”.

While speaking extensively on how the event will foster international trade relations, the Chairman affirmed that the foreign countries have indicated interest to participate in this year’s trade fair as part of initiatives to expand their footprints in the African continent.

“Foreign countries are increasingly announcing their readiness to be part of the fair this year. India, Japan, and Ghana, for instance, have confirmed their interests in being at the fair, among others that are still making inquiries. Indeed, Japan and Ghana have fully paid for their participation. Talks are at an advanced stage with countries like Cote de Ivoire, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Zambia, and Indonesia”.

Kupoluyi also disclosed that the 2022 Lagos International Trade Fair will focus significantly on the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCFTA) and that discussions are ongoing with the Executive Secretary of AFCFTA, Wamkeke Mene, and other stakeholders to drive its realisation.
