The Canva for Brands workshop was organised to help attendees understand how to leverage the Canva platform to build and amplify their brands stress-free and without breaking the bank, especially in the current economic climate. Canva is an audio-visual design tool that comes with millions of customisable templates and design elements for the creation of social media designs, slide presentations, videos as well as several other design-related content for personal, work or business scenarios. Launched in 2013, Canva has evolved from being just a design tool to a work tool favoured by over 100 million users globally, individuals and businesses who use free, paid, teams or enterprise plans.

The hybrid workshop was attended by 100 physical and about 400 online attendees streaming live from across Nigeria and other parts of the world. The programme started with a session on the basics of visual branding and how to apply them on the Canva platform before diving into its features, from basic design editor to AI-powered tools. The facilitator, Ayodotun, the Global Head of Communications at The Elevation Church, took the attendees through the productivity tools available on the Canva platform to help them get more done with their work or business branding and content. Speaking at the workshop, Ayodotun stated, “This is a community impact project to empower others to be more and do more. I started using Canva in 2016 when I started my business as a blogger and then as a Brand/Marketing consultant. I have used it to produce everything from business cards to Christmas cards to marketing pitches, to album art to my speaking collaborates slides as a corporate trainer who has launched various online courses and hosted various sessions. Today in my current role, I don’t think I can explain a concept or share a presentation with the rest of our management team or my colleagues without using Canva, it’s a great tool for work in general and is something we have been teaching people in our ecosystem to leverage. It’s an audio-visual powerhouse, from AI features that generate content out of nothing to business content you never knew you needed. I want others to enjoy even more success than I have with this platform. I want them to find expression for their personal, business or corporate brands using Canva. This workshop is usually a paid service I offer, but I did it free to give back to my community both online and geographically. I resolved to do this to mark my 40th birthday, which happened in December, and I’m thankful for an employer focused on making a difference and empowering others like I am.”

Speaking on the reason for the collaboration, Bola Adisa, the Resident Pastor of the Maryland campus and Chief Technology Officer of The Elevation Church, said, “We have always been passionate about supporting impact projects, it’s a key part of who we are as a ministry. TEC Maryland, also known as Pistis Hub, is a place of worship and hosts meaningful conversations contributing to socio-economic, psychological, and other forms of growth. We remain dedicated to making greatness common.
