Apple unveils mix-reality headset

Excitement has built up as Apple unveils its most ambitious product in years this year, the Apple mix-reality reality headset. The new Apple product is the biggest hardware since the Apple watch in 2015, and its first foray into Augmented Reality.

Tim Cook, Apple CEO, while making the announcement today, said the new headset “seamlessly blends the real world and the virtual world”.

His words: “The new product is expected to be dubbed the future of technology. However, the estimated price of $3,000 (£2,400) for the mixed-reality headset could become a deal-breaker for many consumers. While the company has not yet verified the headset’s existence, leaked photos online show what looks like wraparound ski goggles, offering virtual and augmented reality experiences.”

Reportedly, the headset has been designed to be lighter and smaller by taking out the internal battery. As a result, users will have to carry an external battery that connects to the headset using a cable. The mixed-reality headset is supposed to be launched later this year.

Nonetheless, the announcement will not automatically signal that the headset is available for purchase. According to Sol Rogers, CEO of visual-effects film studio Magnopus, “WWDC will not trigger an immediate shift in industry trends, but it will bring validation and credibility to the technology. The headset may become a profitable product, and it “would redefine our digital and physical realities and propel us into a future where the extraordinary becomes the everyday”.

According to Mike Rockwell, Apple’s vice president of the Technology Development Group, “Creating our first spatial computer required invention across nearly every facet of the system. Through a tight integration of hardware and software, we designed a standalone spatial computer in a compact wearable form factor that is the most advanced personal electronics device ever.”

Apple Vision Pro brings a new dimension to powerful, personal computing by changing the way users interact with their favorite apps, capture and relive memories, enjoy stunning TV shows and movies, and connect with others in FaceTime.
