AAAN set to hand over LAIF Awards to Independent Body

President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Kayode Oluwasona, has disclosed that plans are ongoing to ensure that the 2017 edition of its LAIF Awards is handled by an independent body.

In recent years, there have been calls from stakeholders in the integrated marketing communications industry that LAIF awards which celebrates creative works of Nigerian agencies, be upgraded to meet international standards.

Speaking with MARKETING EDGE, the AAAN boss said the association has given it a deep thought and they feel it’s high time the award got a life of its own.

“We knew that at a point, LAIF would grow to a level where we would be able to franchise it; hand it over to an independent management system. That is what you have in the advanced world and it is one of the aspirations which we had for the award since inception. And now going to its 12th year, you can only expect it’s about time we do that. So we would be looking at doing that concretely from this year’s awards,’’ he said.

On whether there’s already an agreement with an awards handling company, Oluwasona stated, “there’s no collaboration on ground for now because you have to weigh your options. There are several candidates to consider and also reasons to go with them. When we pick from the options we are considering, we will be able to announce.’’

It would be recalled that the Chief Executive Officer of Loeries Award Company, Andrew Human recently visited the AAAN Office in Lagos. Based on the visit, industry observers are speculating that the 2017 LAIF Awards may be handled by the South African company.
