UBA signs Wizkid as Brand Ambassador

UBA, Africa’s best and most resilient banking group with operations in 20 African countries and offices in three global financial centers has concluded plans to sign Africa’s A list singer and songwriter, Wizkid, as the Group’s Brand Ambassador.

The hint was dropped on the bank’s Linkedin page with about 200,000 followers acknowledging the innovative and creative idea.

According to the GMD, Kennedy Uzoka, “We have reached a saturation which is compounded by what we see in the technology space and the only area we need to address this problem is the Medium and Small Scale sector and that is why UBA is leading this crusade, dedicating our resources to drive this area and change the narrative.”

Wizkid recently sat with UBA’s GMD, Kennedy Uzoka, in a fireside chat with the theme ‘Stars & Suits at the just concluded  ‘UBAMarket Place2019′, the largest gathering of the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Africa.

Uzoka added: “UBA has always been at the forefront of entrepreneurship across Africa, undertaking many projects aimed at contributing to and supporting Africa’s growth and economic integration.

“The birth of the UBA marketplace and this entrepreneurial fair is a testament to our commitment to African SMEs.”

The bank’s unwavering support for entrepreneurs is in line with the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and what it stands for, which further portrays the organisation as one that is driven by vision.

The Foundation aims to promote excellence in business leadership and entrepreneurship across Africa. One of its driving aspirations is the improvement of the competitiveness of African economies and developing the next generation of business leaders for Africa.

The Foundation has set itself apart from grant-making by operationalising various integrated programmes to support entrepreneurship in Africa and enhancing the competitiveness of the African private sector.

The market positioning strategy may not be unconnected with the Group’s plan to adopt Wizkid as its Brand Ambassador.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who started recording music at age 11. Wizkid’s contribution to the Nigerian Music Industry has earned him several achievements and awards including a spot on Forbes list of Africa’s richest/bankable artistes and is often regarded as the ‘African Giant’.

To confirm the new deal Wizkid posted a photo on his Instagram page with the caption “It’s official! United Bank of Africa and Wizkid! Now let’s change the world. Biggest deal for Africa!”
