Smirnoff takes Marvel partnership beyond advertising with interactive fan experience

As brands compete for attention in an increasingly crowded entertainment landscape, partnerships with major film franchise are becoming more than opportunities for logo placement. They are evolving into platforms for audience engagement storytelling and experiential marketing.

Smirnoff’s latest collaboration with Marvel Studios around the upcoming Avengers Doomsday offers an example of this shift, with the vodka brand building a campaign around fan participation rather than relying solely on conventional advertising.

Launched under the banner Assemble Your Night, the campaign features actor Karan Soni, known for his appearance in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine. In a series of digital executions, Soni sneaks onto the sets of Avengers Doomsday to host secret parties, bringing the film’s universe into the brand’s campaign narrative.

The collaboration also introduces film-inspired creative concepts and a series of promotional activities designed to sustain audience interest ahead of the film’s scheduled December 18, 2026 release.

At the centre of the activation is a planned Super House Party with Smirnoff using a trail of clues and hidden surprises across its social media channels to reveal details of the event. The approach turns the build-up to the activation into part of the campaign itself, giving audiences a reason to follow the brand’s content beyond the initial announcement.

The partnership also includes a promotional giveaway offering eligible participants the opportunity to win one of 1,800 movie tickers through Fandango promotional codes, alongside a special edition campaign-themed prize.

For Marvel, the collaboration provides another opportunity to extend the film’s presence beyond cinema and into consumer-facing brand experiences. Holly Frank, Disney’s Vice President of Global Marketing Partnerships and Promotions, said the activation draws inspiration from familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe settings while connecting with the festive period surrounding the film’s release.

The partnership reflects a broader direction in entertainment marketing, where brands are increasingly seeking ways to become part of the cultural conversations surrounding major releases. Rather than simply placing products alongside popular films, marketers are exploring content, digital interactions, giveaways and live experiences to create more sustained engagement.

Other brands, including Jack in the Box, Dunkin’, Kinder and Regal Cinemas, have also announced promotional collaborations around Avengers Doomsday, illustrating the commercial attention gathering around the upcoming release.

For Smirnoff, the campaign provides an opportunity to connect its brand identity with a globally recognised entertainment property while creating multiple audience touchpoints in the lead-up to the film.

Its wider significance, however, lies in what it says about the changing nature of brand partnerships. In an environment where visibility alone may not be enough to secure attention, the ability to create an experience around an entertainment property is becoming an increasingly important part of the marketing proposition.
