Showmax, Africa’s leading streaming service, is making a major move in Nigeria’s rapidly growing streaming industry with its first Nigerian Masterbrand campaign. The campaign, with the tagline “No one tells a story like we do,” pays homage to Nigeria’s rich storytelling heritage.

The campaign officially launched with a television commercial featuring popular Nigerian actress Sharon Ooja, known for her role in the AMVCA-nominated Showmax Original series, Flawsome. Showcasing Nigeria’s vibrant storytelling tradition, the campaign emphasizes Showmax’s commitment to presenting authentic Nigerian stories. In the past year alone, Showmax has released eight original Nigerian productions.

Prior to the launch, Showmax generated excitement by displaying billboards across major Nigerian cities featuring popular Nigerian slangs. These billboards sparked conversations on social media, with users sharing their interpretations and perspectives on the campaign.

Showmax has a history of generating social media buzz. In 2022, its Nigerian version of the Real Housewives franchise, The Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOLagos), dominated Twitter conversations during its 13-week run. RHOLagos went on to win an AMVCA award for “Best Costume Designer,” joining other acclaimed Showmax originals like Crime and Justice Lagos, which won awards for “Best TV Series” and “Best Picture Editor.”

Opeoluwa Filani, General Manager at Showmax Nigeria, expressed enthusiasm for the campaign, celebrating Nigeria’s rich storytelling traditions and Showmax’s commitment to portraying them authentically. Filani highlighted Nigeria’s diversity, with over 300 tribes and countless untold stories.

Showmax’s investment in Nigeria has already yielded positive results. The platform received 22 nominations at Africa’s top TV and film awards. Their offerings include the record-breaking children’s show Jay Jay: The Chosen One, inspired by Nigerian football legend Jay Jay Okocha’s childhood, and critically acclaimed originals like Diiche, Flawsome, Crime and Justice Lagos, The Real Housewives of Lagos and Abuja, and Wura. Showmax also features a wide collection of TV shows and films from Africa Magic, including popular titles like Itura, Covenant, My Beautyful Life, and Ricordi. Additionally, Showmax offers beloved HBO shows, allowing fans to binge-watch Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and Emmy-winning favorites like Succession, Barry, The Last of Us, Love and Death, Industry, and Euphoria.

For sports enthusiasts, Showmax Pro combines the entertainment package with live sports streaming from SuperSport, offering subscribers the latest seasons of major leagues and events.

With its Nigerian Masterbrand campaign, Showmax aims to solidify its presence in the Nigerian market by showcasing the country’s storytelling heritage and commitment to producing authentic Nigerian content. The streaming service’s investment in Nigeria has already resulted in significant achievements and a growing subscriber base, establishing Showmax as a major player in the Nigerian streaming industry.
