Role of marketing professionals in Nigeria is undeniable – Sanwo-Olu

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the immense role and impact of marketers and marketing communication professionals in Nigeria.

According to him, the role of the professionals cannot be overlooked as they contribute significantly to the strategy, planning and execution of the Lagos Mega City project.

Speaking during the maiden edition of the Nigerian Marketing Awards at the Eko Hotels & Suits, Victoria Island, Lagos, the governor, who was represented by Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, commended the great work and excellence his administration has enjoyed under the watch of marketing professionals in the industry.

“I will recreate these opportunities by the leadership of these great professions via the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) in the course of my engagement with professionals and other sectoral bodies. I need to commend them for the great work and excellent leadership our administration has enjoyed under their watch.

“My special gratitude goes to the veterans in the Nigeria marketing industry, the marketing profession, those you have toiled to build and give relevance to our trade. Yes, our trade because in my role as the chief marketing officer of Lagos State, I rely on the expertise of the marketing professionals, brand creators and marketing communication consultants to achieve my goals,” he said.

Appreciating the role of the veterans in the industry, the Governor said: “Looking around this hall this evening and the pride of place the marketing professionals occupied in Nigeria, I think we owe them a debt of gratitude. Our four runners have charted us a beautiful path and set our feet on the part to glory. Again, I would like to thank the veterans of this honourable profession some of whom are present here tonight.”

“Your role in making the marketing profession a respected one is undeniable; in this day of technology everybody has become a marketing professional and the same faith is being suffered by the media,” he added.

Similarly, he said it is undeniable that Nigeria as a nation, and Lagos as an industrial hub of Africa have benefited from their professionalism, ingenuity and knowledge. He added that effort has earned Nigeria some form of recognition globally.

“In my capacity as the governor of Lagos State, I have benefited immensely from the strategic council of members of your trade who work with me internally and those who provide strategic counsel to me externally. Let me promise you one thing today, I have become the marketing ambassador of your profession among my colleagues in the Nigerian governors forum and indeed to our government at the national level. I will emphasize that our nation needs marketing,” the Governor said.
