NIMN Fellowship bestowed on Amaechi Okobi

Amaechi Okobi, an astute marketer and thoroughbred professional has been honoured with the reputable Fellowship award by the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN). The conferment ceremony, which took place recently on the occasion of the institute’s 2020 Fellows Dinner and Awards Night in Lagos, saw the who’s who in the marketing industry well in attendance, and deserving individuals were meritoriously conferred with the Institute’s prestigious Fellowship awards.

Commenting on the award, Mr. Okobi, Group Head, Communications & External Affairs at Access Bank Plc, said: “The Institute made me a Fellow. For added spice, the key note was delivered by Seni Adetu (the former Managing Director from my days at Diageo), while the certificates were handed out by the NIMN President, Tony Agenmonmen (one of my former bosses – and teacher – from my days as a Nigerian Breweries brand manager).

“But here’s the thing about awards and accolades: They are never just about the person on the stage. It’s much deeper than that. It’s about the people that helped pave the way. The ones whose words schooled you in this marketing game from the classroom to the workplace and put you on that stage. To them I say a big thank you.”

Extending his vote of thanks to an assemblage of personalities that played one role or the other in his career, the astute marketer said: “Thank you to Lynda Maddox, Laura Birou, Lori Glass, Darren Scala, Erica Oroszlany, Martin Anyanwu, Tony Agenmonmen, Dan Esiekpe, Wouter Fijnaut, Ruairi Twomey, Austin Ufomba, and a host of agency people from a host of marketing agencies who taught me without even knowing they were teaching. Thank you to NIMN for this incredible honour. So, it turns out I am now permitted to use the designation ‘fnimn’ after my name. I like that.”

Amaechi Michael Okobi is currently the Group Head, Communications & External Affairs at Access Bank Plc. with responsibilities that include development of the bank’s communications strategy as related to Brand Strategy & Advertising, Media and Public Relations, Events & Sponsorship and Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability.

As a former Brand Manager at Diageo (Guinness Nigeria), Amaechi was responsible for sustaining and marketing the Johnnie Walker Trademark as a profit-generating asset for Diageo Brands Nigeria and, by extension, Diageo International.
