The long-awaited next-generation of Toyota’s do-anything, go-anywhere Hilux has been spied.

During what appears to be transport, a yet-to-be-released Hilux was uncovered and surreptitiously photographed. Front and rear corners were exposed on the twitter feed of IanM-CARmag.

The new front features an angrier face, with the leading edge of the hood curving down, brow-like over narrower headlights and a shorter grille. Overall, the front looks more purposeful and shies away from the friendly, wide-eyed look of the current model. The lower half of the fascia retains the three air intakes, but is shaped more aggressively as well.

Little is revealed from the rear shot. The taillights sit higher on the bed corners than they do on the current model, and the tailgate handle sits within a larger, trapezoidal piece of chrome trim just below the CHMSL.

The pickup, sold as Toyota’s mid-sized offering in the rest of the world, split off from the US-market Tacoma in the mid-90s. However, the current generation is growing long in the tooth, having been on the market without a major redesign for 10 years. However, it faces little competition and is renowned for its toughness.
