MIPAN honours Dr. Shobanjo with Lifetime Achievement Award

To celebrate the iconic feat of the acclaimed legend of advertising practice in Nigeria, the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) has conferred on Dr. Biodun Shobanjo a Lifetime Achievement Award. The event reached its acme during the Association’s President’s Dinner & Awards held at Radisson Blu Hotel Ikeja, Lagos, where Dr. Shobanjo, the chairman of the occasion, was conferred with the award in recognition of his legendary stature and impact in the industry.
Unable to hide his elation and surprise, the ad guru expressed his heartfelt gratitude, appreciation and excitement to the leadership of the association for the recognition.
He said: “I was surprised. I didn’t know I was going to collect an award tonight. I had no idea, but it feels great.”
Meanwhile, during his keynote speech, Dr. Shobanjo hinted that December holds a very special place in his heart because that is the month of his birth, adding that 5th December, 2021 also completed his 50 years in the advertising profession.
Dr. Shobanjo is the Chairman of Troyka Holdings, Nigeria’s largest and most innovative integrated marketing communications group in Sub-Saharan Africa with businesses in marketing communications, resource management and asset protection. Some of these companies include Insight communications, All Seasons Mediacom and Media Perspectives, Optimum Exposures, The Quadrant Company, Hot Sauce, Black Onyx Properties and Halogen Security.
He holds the certificate of the British Institute of Public Relations, London as well as a certificate of the British Institute of Marketing. He is a chartered member of the British Institute of Public Relations, charter member of the British Institute of marketing, member International Advertising Association fellow, Commonwealth Journalists Association and past president of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN).
He is a recipient of a plethora of awards in recognition of his outstanding and excellent professional works, integrity, leadership and mentorship.
He started his advertising career half a century ago at the American owned Grant Advertising where he was an Account Executive Trainee as rapidly rose to become Deputy Managing Director.
Indeed, he has given life to Pablo Picasso’s statement that: “The meaning of life is to find your gift; the purpose of life is to give it away.” His life continues to teach that true success is the ability to replicate oneself and deeds with indelible footprints in the sand of time.
