Lagos, Abuja airports’ll be ready by June-FAAN MD
The Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Engineer Saleh Dunoma has revealed that the newly constructed terminals at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja would be ready for flight operations by June.
Dunoma made the disclosure at the Gateway Forum organized by the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
He noted that the terminal building under construction at the Port Harcourt International Airport is about 80 percent completed and would also come online soon.
According to him, with the growth of passengers’ traffic, it was necessary for those airports’ terminals to come on stream and become fully operational.
In hi by the middle of this year, at least Lagos and Abuja airports should be ready. “In fact, we were at the Abuja airport with the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello on Friday to look at how we can commission the terminal building together with the light rail that will be servicing the airport.
“We are working in conjunction with the Federal Capital Territory Ministry to make sure that we synchronize our activities so that passengers can start using the light rail to the airport as well as leave the airport by train.”
Recall that the new terminals are amongst the four terminals for construction in the N153 billion ($500 million) loan deal between the Federal Government and CCECC in July 2014.
Passengers using the Lagos and Abuja airports will have seamless travel experiences as facilities at the new terminal buildings have been deployed to enable them feel comfortable while at the airports.
