GSK elevates Mark Pfister

Leading multinational pharmaceutical company, GSK, has elevated Mark Pfister to the GM of East and West Africa markets in a move aimed at repositioning market leadership.

Until his elevation in August this year, Pfister was General Manager of the West African business as well as project director Africa and developing countries having served the multinational business as Commercial Director, Anglophone West Africa earlier.

With his new position, Pfister will lead GSK commercial operations to pharmaceuticals, consumer health, vaccines and HIV (VIIV) in Ghana and other Anglophone West Africa (Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone).

He has acquired multi-level skills and competencies within the group having served in different capacities long before now. As a team leader, Mark Pfister has been responsible for the sales to health professionals for a team of 4 medical representatives across key GSK disease areas – Asthma and Allergy, Anti-Infectives and smoking Cessation.

As head of Marketing, OTC, he was once responsible for the marketing activities for over the counter medicines (OTC) categories, including Pain Management, Respiratory Tract, Gastro Intestinal Tract. He has also been charged with developing and implementing commercial excellence strategy for the group, engaging in capacity building programs and its roll-out. He was also once in charge of media vendor selection and performance management while a marketing excellence manager.

As Marketing Director, West Africa, he was responsible for marketing activities for all GSK consumer healthcare categories (Nutritional beverages, OTC, Oral Healthcare and Foods Beverages in Anglophone West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone including nutritional beverages for the French West Africa.

He has also led development of a single shared channel initiative, including the identification of a new sales and distribution model to drive improved reach, productivity and commercial propositions for pharmaceutical and Consumer Healthcare businesses. Lead joint (Pharma and Consumer) pharmacy channel sales team.

The GSK top notch has a B.Sc degree from Stellenbosh University and also Bachelor of Business Management and Administration with honours. He was formerly Marketing Manager, Ready to Drink Beverages, Tiger Brands (Cadbury sold Beverages to Tiger brands, where he was responsible for marketing activities for all Ready to Drink beverages. He is well travelled and highly cosmopolitan.
