Ford unveils 2022 Maverick Hybrid Compact Pickup
Ford Motors, a leading automobile company, has announced that its 2022 Maverick compact pickup truck will have a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain as standard equipment.
The 2022 Ford model, which comes standard with a hybrid powertrain and front-wheel drive, also has a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that offers all-wheel drive as an option and can tow up to 4000 pounds.
Speaking in an interview, Ford’s vice president in charge of product planning said Ford expects the hybrid version of the 2022 Maverick to make up about 40% of demand when it goes on sale this fall and the technology was critical to hitting the targeted starting price, adding that a gasoline-powered engine will be sold as an option.
He noted: “We see it certainly consistent with our strategy of leaning into electrification,” he said. “Hybrid is a step and you’ve seen a lot of the work that we’re doing and all of our investments going into battery electric as kind of a continuum of improving fuel economy.”
The five-passenger, four-door Maverick fits between other unibody pickups and will be built at Ford’s plant in Hermosillo, Mexico.
The 2022 Ford Maverick is available to order now in XL, XLT, and Lariat models and will arrive this fall starting at $21,490 for the base XL model, $23,775 for the XLT, and $26,985 for the Lariat.
Ford and other global automakers are rapidly shifting their gas-powered lineups to all electric under pressure from regions like Europe and China to cut vehicle emissions.
