FCCPC shuts Chinese supermarket over claims of discrimination

Against the backdrop of a viral video circulating in social media platforms on discrimination policy implemented by a Chinese Supermarket in Abuja, the Federal Competition and Consumer and Protection Commission (FCCPC) has shut down the Abuja-based Chinese supermarket situated at the China General Chamber of Commerce.
The viral video was made on Saturday and shared on X (Twitter) by Sunday morning as some Nigerian youths took to the Supermarket to confirm if policy truly exists. On getting there the security man confirmed the supermarket is exclusive to Chinese only. He added that the policy started January 2024.
The FCCPC officials shut the Supermarket as they arrived the premises after interrogating Nigerians who work at the supermarket.
According to Shaibu Sanusi, the facility manager of the complex, Nigerians from outside the complex cannot shop there, but Nigerians within can access the supermarket.
As the FCCPC officials arrived, the supermarket’s doors remained tightly shut. Speculation arose that individuals might be hiding within, seeking to evade a confrontation with the consumer protection agency.
