Dentsu UK names Carat veteran as chief operating officer of media

Dentsu UK and Ireland has appointed Mark Hughes as its director of operations for Media.

Having spent 23 years at Carat UK dealership where he was recently joint interim CEO, Hughes takes over the role of director of operations for media.

In his new role, he will join the Dentsu media team in February and report to Hamish Nicklin, chief media officer for Dentsu UK and Ireland, and global media operating director for Dentsu International, Tom Amies-Cull.

Hughes will be responsible for creating a long-term strategy to maintain and improve business operations and improve the service that Dentsu media operations provide to clients.

According to the new director, he said: “I am very excited to take on this role with the opportunity to marry my skills in leadership, business transformation and experience partnering with clients to continue to drive positive change across our business.

“I will focus on creating the best possible experience for our people and our customers across the media. There is so much to look forward to and I can’t wait to get started.”

Speaking on the appointment, Nicklin said: “Marc’s knowledge of media business forensics and his incredible legacy at Carat made him a fantastic candidate for this role on paper. The fact that he is off paper a brilliant human being with a passion for problem-solving and creative thinking makes him the perfect choice as we build the media agency model of the future at Dentsu.”

Hughes’ appointment follows a slew of appointments across Dentsu, which included Mike McCoy as Chief Growth Officer (Dentsu UK and Ireland) and Nnenna Ilomechina, who is set to become Global COO (Dentsu International) later this year.
