The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has opened the fourth edition of its Advertising Industry Colloquium (AIC), bringing together thought leaders, regulators, practitioners, academics, and emerging professionals to interrogate the future of advertising and marketing communications in Nigeria.

The ongoing colloquium, has grown into one of the most significant annual conversations in Nigeria’s advertising calendar.

This year’s edition is themed “The Future of Advertising: Roles of Platforms, People and Regulation” a theme that Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, Director General of ARCON, described as a direct reflection of both the opportunities and responsibilities that accompany the industry’s rapid transformation.

Delivering his welcome address to open the event, Dr. Fadolapo said: “As technology reshapes communication and digital platforms continue to influence consumer engagement, the need for responsible innovation, professional excellence, and effective regulation has never been more critical,” he stated.

The ARCON DG noted that shaping the future of advertising in Nigeria requires a collective effort. “The future of advertising cannot be shaped by one stakeholder alone. It requires collaboration that inspires innovation, stakeholders who drive creativity and ethical practice, and a regulatory framework that promotes trust, protects consumers, and supports sustainable industry growth,” he said.

He expressed optimism about the outcomes the colloquium would generate, noting that “through constructive dialogue and collaboration, we can build an advertising ecosystem that is resilient, globally competitive, and responsive to the changing needs of society.”

Dr. Fadolapo also reaffirmed the colloquium’s place as a critical industry platform, describing it as “an important platform for bringing together thought leaders, regulators, practitioners, academia, and emerging professionals to exchange ideas on the future of advertising and marketing communications in Nigeria.”

He expressed confidence that the day’s engagements would leave a lasting mark on the profession. “I am confident that the discussions and insights from today’s Colloquium will inspire fresh thinking, strengthen partnerships, and contribute meaningfully to the continued advancement of the advertising profession in Nigeria,” he said.
