Airtel Nigeria visits LUTH, renews CSR commitment

Inspired by the commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Airtel Nigeria recently visited the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Ward A to inspect the facility, renewing its commitment.
In 2021, Airtel Nigeria donated the sum of Ꞥ200 million for the renovation and upgrade of the medical equipment and structure of ward A unit of the institution, which at the time was in a deplorable condition.
Chief Executive Officer of Airtel, Carl Cruz, expressed his satisfaction with the impact of the company’s ₦200 million donation towards renovating and upgrading the medical equipment and physical architecture of a section of the institution. Mr. Cruz praised LUTH’s outstanding leadership and highlighted the positive impact that the revamped ward has had on the delivery of healthcare services.
“We are pleased to observe that the collaboration with LUTH has continued to touch the lives of so many Nigerians. The outstanding leadership of LUTH also deserves our commendation for how well they have kept the equipment and building for the past two years. Their approach is worthy of emulation,” Carl said.
Since Airtel’s intervention in 2021, LUTH has witnessed remarkable improvements. The upgraded equipment and renovated ward have enhanced the hospital’s ability to provide quality healthcare services to patients.
Mr. Cruz also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to making a positive impact on communities and improving the lives of the less advantaged. He highlighted the importance of supporting government efforts to enhance society and commended LUTH’s management for their dedication in maintaining the renovated facilities.
“It is always a delight to contribute to the community in the best ways that we can, especially supporting government’s efforts to make society better. At Airtel, we have a strong belief contributing to the wellbeing of our countrymen, including anyone who is now able to benefit from LUTH as an institution,” he further added.
Acting Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Lanre Adeyemo, emphasized the visible impact of Airtel’s intervention, stating that the company has become a model of corporate social responsibility for other organizations, inspiring them to undertake similar projects at LUTH.
“The impact of Airtel’s intervention is very visible. Airtel has become a model of corporate social responsibility to other organizations that have also been inspired to take up projects in LUTH. Before Airtel’s renovation, Ward A, which had not seen any major renovation since it was built in 1962, was the worst of the blocks,” Adeyemo stated.
Before Airtel’s donation, WARD-A had not undergone any major renovations since its construction in 1962, making it one of the least functional blocks in the hospital. However, thanks to Airtel’s ₦200 million investment, the ward has been transformed into a modern, well-equipped facility that caters to the needs of patients and supports the training of nurses, doctors, and dentists.
The visit by Airtel’s executive team provided an opportunity to assess the ongoing impact of the renovations and engage with LUTH’s management, staff, and patients to evaluate the effectiveness of the upgraded equipment and facility.
The partnership between Airtel and LUTH demonstrates the power of corporate social responsibility and the significant impact that private organizations can have on public healthcare institutions. Through donations and support, companies like Airtel can contribute to the improvement of healthcare services, benefitting communities and individuals in need.
