AB InBev SA partners Bevcan to export 1billion cans to America by 2021

South African Breweries parent company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), has negotiated a deal with Bevcan—a local can manufacturer, to export an additional one-billion locally manufactured cans across the Atlantic to its operations in South, Central and North America between 2020 and 2021.

The partnership demonstrates AB InBev’s commitment to growing South Africa’s economy by sourcing materials locally and supporting local businesses in the markets that it operates. As a result of this deal, Bevcan has reignited a decommissioned line solely for the purpose of producing and exporting cans for the Americas.

The partnership will provide an economic growth of R1.2 billion, or a 20% increase, to the South African beverage canning industry, which currently supports thousands of livelihoods at a time where the country’s economic growth and employment rate are at an all-time low.

Notwithstanding the banning of the sale of alcohol through South Africa’s lockdown period earlier this year – which caused a decline in sales and output, the multinational brewing company is steadfast in rebuilding its local business, as well as those of its value chain partners, by bringing global demand to South Africa’s shores with the ultimate goal of building a sustained economy and also assist in keeping the country’s economy afloat.

With over one-million livelihoods said to be dependent on the alcohol industry’s value chain, and about 140 000 of these livelihoods solely dependent on SAB, the company believes the partnership is proof that there are global opportunities which can be exploited for the benefit of South Africa and a refreshed promise of providing more opportunities to increase its contribution to the economic growth of the country in future.

South African Breweries is a direct subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev. The company’s brands include Corona Extra, Castle Lager, Carling Blue Label Castle Milk Stout Castle Chocolate Stout Flying Fish Redd’s Premium Cider Brutal Fruit Carvers Weiss Liberado and others.
