Ogilvy South Africa and Scanad Kenya have been named in the highly anticipated shortlists for Cannes Lions 2023. Their inclusion in these prestigious lists demonstrates the creative excellence and innovative thinking prevalent in African advertising.

Ogilvy South Africa’s Cape Town branch has secured a spot on the Titanium Lions’ shortlist with its outstanding campaign, “Bread of the Nation,” created for client AB InBev’s product, Castle Lager. The campaign’s impactful storytelling and creativity have earned the South African agency a well-deserved place on the shortlist.

Also, Scanad, a renowned agency based in Kenya, has received recognition on the Glass Lion for Change shortlist for their thought-provoking campaign, “Stain, Not Shame,” executed for Zeva Fashion. The campaign tackles social stereotypes and aims to foster positive change. Scanad’s presence on the Glass Lion for Change shortlist reinforces their reputation for delivering impactful and meaningful content. They are the sole African brand to be named in this distinguished category.

Both South Africa and Kenya have long been regarded as trailblazers in the African advertising landscape, consistently pushing creative boundaries and delivering exceptional campaigns. Their achievements at last year’s Cannes Lions festival demonstrated their prowess. South Africa celebrated a total of 12 Lions and three Silver Campaigns, while Kenya’s Ogilvy Africa made history by securing their first-ever Gold Lion.

On the other hand, Nigeria, another prominent player in Africa’s advertising industry, continues its pursuit of a Cannes Lion medal. Nigerian agencies and brands are eager to make their mark and contribute to the flourishing creative landscape in Africa.

The winners of the highly anticipated Cannes Lions 2023 will be announced on June 23.
