In recognition of the vital role journalists play in shaping narratives and facilitating meaningful conversations, 9mobile, a leading advocate for professional development in journalism, recently hosted its quarterly capacity-building session. The session aimed to equip journalists with the necessary skills to foster engagement, collaboration, and impact through digital platforms.

The seventh edition of the 9mobile capacity-building session, themed “Building Online Communities for Journalistic Exploits,” brought together media professionals to learn from industry experts. Oluwatosin Olaseinde, Founder of Money Africa and Ladda, a financial literacy and investment platform, facilitated the session. Olaseinde, an expert in Edtech and Fintech with a community of over 300,000 people, shared insights on community-building strategies, audience engagement techniques, and leveraging social media platforms.

During her presentation, Olaseinde emphasized the importance of recognizing the potential of online communities in facilitating dialogue and collective participation between the media and their audience. She highlighted the need to identify the target audience, define community goals, and craft engaging content to ensure vibrant discussions and interactions.

“Creating a niche and understanding the demographic you are dealing with is crucial,” Olaseinde stated. She emphasized that customizing messaging for different audiences, such as Gen Zs who primarily use TikTok or millennials and baby boomers who prefer WhatsApp, X, and Facebook, is essential for effective communication.

Olaseinde also shared her personal experience in creating an ecosystem of financially literate individuals through her platform. Her passion for developing a platform that provides equal access to wealth accumulation techniques for Millennials and Gen Z led to the creation of Money Africa and Ladda.

After the session, Chineze Amanfo, 9mobile’s Public Relations lead, emphasized the transformative impact of the digital landscape on journalism. She encouraged journalists to apply the techniques discussed during the capacity-building session to create and nurture online communities that transcend geographical boundaries.

Amanfo stated, “We charge our media friends to harness the power of digital platforms for knowledge dissemination, audience engagement, and the amplification of impactful stories.” She commended the participants for their consistent participation in the 9mobile Capacity building sessions and reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting their professional development.

With 9mobile’s relentless advocacy for professional development in journalism, journalists are empowered to navigate the evolving digital landscape and foster impactful journalism that resonates with audiences worldwide.
