2024: Top appointments in IMC industry so far

Restructuring and revamping seem to be the in-thing across the Integrated Marketing Communication Industry (IMC) as brands, agencies and other businesses now strategically appoint, create new roles in a bid to drive innovative growth in 2024.

These businesses and agencies are undertaking significant action to modify and reshape their operations with the intention of increasing efficiency and revenue going forward.

So far, there have been new appointments in several agencies and businesses like Leo Burnett, Insight Publicis, Smartcomply, Airtel Africa, rapid broadcasting network, Access holdings, FrieslandCampina, and Peretti van melle.

Insight Redefini, one of the topmost creative agencies in Africa, welcomed Babatunde Shobanjo, as the Group General Manager/ Group Chief Operating Officer for the group.

According to the firm, the new GCOO in his strategic vision, will be harnessing the agency’s market positioning to further accelerate its expansion in the global creative landscape.

The creative icon in this important transformative journey will leverage his impressive track record and specialisation in the creative space to lead an unprecedented growth trajectory, while optimising and spearheading operational efficiency to harness growth that will further strengthen the advertising group.

Insight Publicis, a prominent creative force in Africa, also officially appointed Dolapo Ogunbambo, a distinguished figure in marketing communications and innovation consultancy, as its Chief Operating Officer.

In his new found role, Dolapo will leverage his expertise in general management, organizational leadership, and client relations to spearhead the commercial and technical functions of the agency, providing crucial direction and leadership.

Smartcomply, a leading provider of automated and AI-powered compliance and cybersecurity solutions with a sharp focus on AI, automation, innovation, compliance, and cybersecurity in Africa, announced the appointment of Jude Ogbonna as the new Country Head.

Ogbonna has an impressive background as a business growth professional with an excellent track record of revenue generation working in the information technology space. He leverages expertise in project management, business development, account management, product development to drive the company’s success.

Leo Burnett Lagos, member of West-Africa’s largest integrated marketing group, Insight Redefini appoints Oluwaseyi Layade to the esteemed position of Chief Operating Officer, effective January, 2024.

As she ascends to the esteemed role of Chief Operating Officer at Leo Burnett Lagos, Layade’s dedication, vision, and unwavering commitment to excellence stand as guiding principles. Her appointment reaffirms Leo Burnett’s commitment to innovation, client-centricity, and operational excellence.

What’s more, Airtel Africa appointed Sunil Taldar as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer to succeed Mr. Ogunsanya on his retirement. Mr. Taldar, who joined Airtel Africa in October 2023 as Director Transformation, will begin the transition to the CEO role, working alongside Mr. Ogunsanya. Following a transition period, Mr. Taldar will be appointed to the Board as an Executive Director and assume the role of CEO on 1 July 2024, at which time Mr. Ogunsanya will step down from the Board and retire from the Company.

NOVA Merchant Bank Limited, a leading merchant bank in Nigeria announced the appointment of Mr. Adebowale Oyedeji as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

According to a statement from the bank, Oyedeji’s appointment took effect from January 2, 2024.

Frontline media personality, Oscar Oyisan has pitched tent with Rapid Broadcasting Network (RBN) operators of Rapid TV and Rapid FM, with presence in Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt and Umuahia, as its new General Manager.

In his new role, Oscar brings onboard 20+ years’ experience in Radio, TV, Advertising, Marketing and Production, with the sole aim of shaping the minds and skills of the next generation of broadcasters at RBN. All while bringing innovation to the content that RBN provides that covers Entertainment & Lifestyle, News & Politics and Culture. He believes that we are the best people to tell our story.

Adewale Arikawe has been promoted to the position of Managing Director, Sub-Saharan Africa at Royal FrieslandCampina.

Prior to his position, he was the Regional Director Ghana Equatorial and Southern African Countries of the same company.

Adewale plays an active role in the overall FrieslandCampina Wamco Nigeria strategy to win in the market and contribute to global Commercial strategy for best practices.

Emeka Nwodo has stepped into the role of Gum Category Manager at Perfetti Van Melle, a global confectionery and chewing gum powerhouse. Enriched with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Lagos and membership in the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Nwodo brings about 15 years of seasoned expertise to this new chapter.

Nwodo’s skill set extends to market evaluation, competitive analysis, trend identification, cross-functional leadership, creative solution initiation, customer-centric communication, and influential engagement across all organizational levels.
