Vanguard Editor emerges NGE President

The Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference and Convention held in Owerri, Imo State, has resulted in the appointment of Mr. Eze Anaba, Editor of Vanguard Newspaper, as the newly elected President of the Guild. Joining him in leadership is Husseina Bangshika, who emerged as Deputy President.

Anaba’s ascension to the position of President is a testament to his remarkable journey within Vanguard, where he has excelled in various editorial roles. He has contributed significantly as the Law and Human Rights Editor, Deputy News Editor, Saturday Editor, and Deputy Editor.

With a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from the esteemed Leicester University in the United Kingdom, Anaba brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. He has also served on two Federal Government-appointed committees, namely the Law Reform Committee during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Administration and the Committee on the Abrogation of Death Penalty in Nigeria.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Anaba is a respected member of the civil society movement in the country. Drawing on his vast experiences and extensive networks, he has consistently championed media freedom and diversity in Nigeria.

The election also saw the appointment of other esteemed individuals to key positions within the Guild. Umoru Ibrahim was elected as the Vice President for the North, Kabir Alabi Garba as the Vice President for the West, Sheddy Ozoene as the Vice President for the East, Iyobosa Uwugiaren as the General Secretary, Gabriel Akinadewo as the Assistant General Secretary, Steve Nwosu as the Treasurer, and Charles Kalu as the Social/Publicity Secretary.

Additionally, the following members were elected to the Standing Committee for a two-year term: Paulyn Ugbodaga and Muhammad S. Jibrin for the North, Onuoha Ukeh, Oluwole Sogunle, and Rose Moses for the West, and Chinedu Egere and Dom Isute for the East.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference and Convention has paved the way for a new era of leadership and collaboration in advancing the field of journalism in Nigeria.
