Unilever launches digital skills hub to empower unemployed youths

Multinational FMCG Company Unilever has launched a digital skills hub tagged LevelUP to empower unemployed youths by providing online courses and mentorship opportunities to help “Gen Z get job-ready.”

According to Unilever, “Youth unemployment is one of the biggest threats to our societies. We want to help change that, but we cannot do it alone. That’s why we are partnering with other businesses, governments and NGOs to help young people become employed, together”.

The LevelUP by Unilever was created to help youths start their journey, level up their skills and build experiences to add to their CVs so as to boost the level of employability; from learning the basics of personal branding to boosting digital skills, and even being able to take purposeful action through volunteering and becoming an active member of society; the experiences have been designed to youths land their dream jobs.

Speaking on the initiative, the leading FMCG company stated: “At Unilever, we believe in being a driving force for good, and we want to help create a better business and a better world. So this site is all about creating a better you. We believe in the power of young people who are passionate about making a difference. That starts with you – your purpose, your development and your growth.”

Particularly in South Africa, Unilever South Africa wants to empower young people to level up their skills and become more employable.

“We have committed to equipping 1.5 million young South Africans with the skills to prepare them for the future of work in the next 5 years,” the company stated.

The company’s products cut across various categories including Condiments and extracts, deserts, teas and herbal beverages, ice cream, and personal care. Some of these products include Hellmann’s and Best Foods, Axe/Lynx Dermalogica, Knorr, Lipton, Lux, Magnum, Omo/Surf Excel/Breeze/Skip Rexona/Sure/Degree/Shield Surf, Sunsilk and many more.
