First of its kind, public relations practitioners around the globe are preparing to celebrate the first World Public Relations Day on 16th July, 2021, with an array of online interactions and other activities.

With the World PR Day celebrations, public relations practitioners are hoping to strengthen this message about what they stand for while educating stakeholders across various institutions and the general public on ways they can better harness the benefits of PR, and even innovate around it.

According to the organizers, “For the first time ever, “Practitioners around the world are dedicating July 16 every year to the recognition and celebration of public relations and communications, and build a unified global agenda towards making the world understand and utilize PR better”.

“We are assembling a community of passionate professionals who are happy to invest their time, money and expertise in making sure World PR Day reaches everyone”.

“Every year, there will be scheduled editorials on many topics, social media conversations, formal events, global recognitions, seminars, debates, and workshops dedicated to PR. And it’s all courtesy of everyone who cares about helping the world understand and use PR in making the world better”.

“PR is more than a terribly misunderstood, poor appreciated, and thus poorly remunerated practice. Businesses, countries, and people do not just practitioners, but themselves a huge disservice, if they continue to fail to see PR for what it is and should be: a strategic aspect of business and governance, invaluable in building relationships, preventing crises, achieving business objectives; pushing national interest, and preventing the kind of confusion that could ruin a company or lead nations to war”.

Sharing more insights on the celebrations, Ayeni Adekunle, founder and CEO of BlackHouse Media (BHM) expressed confidence that this is what is best for the PR practice, stating that the World PR Day presents an opportunity to clearly articulate the role public relations plays and to show everyone its importance.

“Several challenges exist in the public relations practice, but right now the most crucial is the representation of what PR is and what we as practitioners stand for,” he said.
