PBAT signs minimum wage bill into law

As part of the agreement between the federal government of Nigeria and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on increment in minimum wage, President Bola Tinubu has signed the minimum wage bill into law today.
This move ends the several months of deliberations between government authorities, labour unions, and the private sector.
The bill was signed at the State House days after the National Assembly had passed the N70,000 per month minimum wage bill.
A National Assembly delegation led by the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and some members of the House of Representatives were present to witness the ground-breaking event.
It would be recalled that the tripartite committee had submitted two figures in its report to the President as a result of disagreement among the government, the private sector and organized labour.
While the government and the private sector offered N62,000, organized labour demanded N250,000.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting with the President, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Tinubu agreed to pay N70,000 from the initial offer of N62,000.
