OAAN set to hold its 2021 Executive Retreat

By Felicia Nwosu

The newly elected executive of Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), led by Emmanuel Ajufo, is ready to hold its annual planning retreat tomorrow, the 9th of July, 2021. The purpose of the retreat is to enable the leadership fashion the strategy and way forward on how to steer the ship of the organisation in the next two years.

Mr. Babatunde Oyekan, the Publicity Secretary, stated this to MARKETING EDGE during an interview. The Retreat is slated to hold from 10.00 am on Friday, 9 July 2021, at Erith Apartments & Suites, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos. Mr. Babatunde revealed that the retreat is mainly for the executive members, and will serve as an avenue to help the leadership of the Association re-strategise and map out plans on how to soar successfully throughout their tenure.

According to him, at the retreat, each officer will bring his idea on-board, which will be viewed holistically to come up with a roadmap document that will guide the executive in the quest to take the Association to the next level. He said different committees have been set up to handle different challenges confronting members of the Association with a view to fashioning creative ways to solve such problems.

Questions on how members of the executive intend to go about the debt issue did not elicit comments. The publicity secretary, however, stated that it will definitely be discussed at the retreat.

He said: “Everybody’s aim of doing business is to make profit, the problem of debt has become a worrisome challenge that requires urgent intervention. So, once it is presented by the committee that is saddled with the responsibility, it will receive the full attention of the executives.”

He emphasised that there are laid down procedures on how debt can be recovered by the Association on behalf of members. He noted that if members of the Association are having a debt issue with any agency, they are to present it to the Exco through the committee, while the Exco will do its investigation to find out the genuineness or otherwise of the case.

His words: “What I know is that if an agency owes, and three members can corroborate that, and we know that it is long overdue, it becomes an issue the Association must look into. That is how the association has been handling things.”

He stated that OAAN will also be tapping into the soon to inaugurate much awaited Audience Measurement Council planned to be set up by the federal government. Recall that the Federal Government, early this year, inaugurated a task team on audience measurement with a view to boosting broadcast medium in the country as well as guaranteeing return on client’s advertising investments and expenditures.

Describing it as a welcome development, Mr. Babatunde positively affirmed: “When the Audience Measurement Council is finally inaugurated, it will give the Association an edge, because some brand managers and marketing directors may not believe in eyeballs. However, when they see the audience measurement and the results of how eyeballs are being perceived – the kind of leverage that it can give them, then they will tap into it and it will give an edge to more patronage over the eyeball patronage of media.”
