MTN to probe recent service outage

Leading telecommunication company, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has commissioned its technical partners, Ericsson and Cisco to probe why its network virtually collapsed on Saturday, 9 October, 2021.

Commenting on the disruption that affected its data and voice services, MTN CEO Olutokun Toriola said: “I want to apologize to all the customers that were affected by Saturday’s service outage. Our primary mission is to bring you the benefits of a modern connected life, and notwithstanding this unfortunate event, our commitment to providing the reliable service you’ve come to expect over the past 20 years remains unshaken.”

Reassuring its customers of excellent service delivery, the telecom boss said: “I want to reassure all our stakeholders that our network team is working closely with our network partners Ericsson and Cisco to ensure that the reasons for the disruption are fully investigated, and appropriate action is taken to enhance the resilience of affected systems.”

In a preliminary investigation carried out by the company, the telecom giant blamed the service outage on what it said was a disruption in its “core network”.
