Lotus Bank, others support Unilag Vice Chancellor’s Inter-Faculties Games

The University of Lagos yearly inter-faculties games, popularly known as the Vice Chancellor’s Cup competition, has attracted some prominent sponsors, among which are Lotus Bank the Lead Sponsor, Peak Milk which is the official drink partner for the competition, and other supporting sponsors like Sovereign Trust Insurance and Bobo Foods Limited.

This development, according to the organisers, would take this year’s edition of the event to new heights and accentuate the greatness which the competition Commands.

The organisers, which comprise the University of Lagos Sports Center under the office of the Vice Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, and under the sports council Chairmanship of Professor Afolabi Lesi, the Unilag Ag. Director of Sports and all Sports center coaches, have also released the schedule for the much-awaited games which will commence tomorrow (the 23rd of January 2024).

The competition which has been designed to foster unity among students of various faculties within the institution, and to be able to discover talented athletes that will be representing the University during the forthcoming Nigerian University Games NUGA, WAUG, FASU, FISU and other National and international competitions, as well as encouraging the participants to pursue their sporting dreams alongside their academics, will have 13 faculties slugging it out among themselves.

In a press statement signed by the organizers the 2024 event will span one week and will involve different sporting events ranging from football, to track and field events. The statement added that all the listed events (both track and field) would be held within the university campus sports complex as it emphasized that the indoor sports hall facility of the institution is a standard facility that was used for the 2022 NUGA games, and which can conveniently host an average seating capacity of over 2000 guests at a go.

To underscore the essence of the competition, there will be a pre-competition lecture to be delivered by Prof. R. A Moronfolu, a seasoned Sports Administrator from the Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science, Lagos State University, Ojoo, Lagos with the theme: “Sports Talent Identification and Development: The Role of Corporate Organizations In Perspective”.
The official opening ceremony of the event will be performed by the first female Vice Chancellor of the institution Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola, who will perform the kick-off on Tuesday 23rd of January 2024.

The organizers emphasized that it will, amongst others things develop a deliberate sponsorship deal that will be planned, sustained and be mutually beneficial to all parties, to wit, the university, the brands, and the athletes.
They (the organisers) therefore enjoined all and sundry to “Come and enjoy youth competitions at its best in the University of first choice and the Nation’s pride”.
