LIRS extends deadline for annual tax returns to Feb 14

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced the extension of the deadline for filing of Company’s annual tax returns to February 14, 2021.

In the statement, which was posted on it handle twitter handle @lirsgovng stated that: “in view of the challenge being experienced due to effect of COVID-19 pandemic on businesses with the state, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extend the filling of Employers’ Annual Returns by an additional 2(two) weeks starting from February 14. 2021.”

“Statutorily, the filling of company’s annual return expires on January 31st of every fiscal year, and attracts stiff penalties for defaulters. Tax Payers are thereby urged to take advantage of this extension to perform their civic obligation.”

Recall that LIRS had earlier stated that the employers of labour should file their company tax returns on or before January, 31, 2021, to avoid being penalized by the tax authorities.

LIRS has said the reason for the extension of the deadline is also in response to appeals made by taxpayers as well as an attempt to assuage the effect of the pandemic on the taxpayers and residents of Lagos State.

The management and staff appeal to residents of Lagos to support the efforts of the Lagos government ably led by Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu by adhering strictly to the safety guidelines as issued by relevant health authorities.
