IWD: Lagos NIPR urges women to earn trust through hard work, resilience

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos State chapter, has celebrated Lagos Women in Public Relations and, indeed, all women in the profession all over Nigeria on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. The Chapter urged women across the country to redouble their efforts and work hard in order to keep raising the bar in all walks of life. It also called for the enactment of stringent laws by government at all levels to protect the rights of women in the country.
According to the United Nations’ data, 48% of Nigerian women have experienced at least one form of violence since the COVID-19 pandemic started. This violence comes in the form of verbal abuse and denial of basic resources.
The Chapter, therefore, noted that the formulation and implementation of relevant laws will ensure that Nigerian women are protected from all forms of gender-based violence and abuse.
While appreciating the swift response of the Lagos State Government and relevant law enforcement agencies in the state to the public outcry against the death of 22-year old lady Oluwabamise Ayanwole who lost her life after boarding a BRT bus in the Lekki area, the Chapter called on the government not to leave any stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.
Aligning with the theme for this year’s celebration, “Break the Bias”, the Chapter noted that a proper legal framework and sensitization will ensure that the Nigerian society is free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination against women.
The Chapter commended members of the House of Representative for listening to the voice of reason by rescinding its decision on three gender bills in the constitution amendment.
“We commend the men for their supportive roles as partners and colleagues in the practice,” the NIPR Lagos State Chapter said.
