Heineken commences UEFA Trophy Tour in Lagos, Abuja with Seedorf

Heineken, the renowned global premium beer brand, has begun the much awaited UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour with football legend Clarence Seedorf. The Trophy Tour will begin in Lagos and end in Abuja on the 12 & 13th of April, 2022.

This was announced today at the Nigerian Breweries Plc Headquarters in Abebe village, Iganmu, Lagos.

The two-day event, which has not only Seedorf but also Austin Okocha and Daniel Amokachi, according to the company, was aimed at bringing the brand closer to the people in addition to the launch of its new campaign with the theme “Cheers to All Fans”. The tour is also an avenue to inform the world that the brand is not just for male fans but for all genders.

Giving the opening remark, the Corporate Affairs Director, Shade Morgan, said the momentous event brings Europe elite football competition right to Nigeria, adding that the two-day tour will be held in the cities of Lagos and Abuja on the 12 & 13th of April, 2022.

“As we kick off this momentous event on a special day by the global beer brand Heineken, it is to our great delight that I officially announce the 2021/2022 edition of the UEFA Champions Trophy Tour. This global event is currently going in over 31 countries across South America, Asia, and Africa,” she said.

“For this year’s event, the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour brings onboard Dutch football legend and UEFA Ambassador Clarence Seedorf. He is one of the most successful players in UEFA Champions League history, the true football legend whose accomplishment speaks for him, and also he is the only player in history that has lifted the UCL trophy four times. As a global sports icon, respected by football fans regardless of nationality or club allegiance, he is the perfect fit for Heineken and for this trophy tour,” Mrs. Morgan added.

According to her, the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour presented by Heineken was developed to enable fans globally to have the chance to get closer to the competition.

She explained that Over 60% of UEFA Champions League fans are from outside Europe, and that through the tour, Heineken helps UEFA to engage with this global fan base. She said this year will not be different as there are plans in place to deliver all the inspiring moments for fans through the trophy exhibition coupled with the presence of Seedorf.

“Our goal is to create unique and memorable experiences with fans all over the world and here in Nigeria. We know that football knows no gender, and that is why our cheers to all fans highlights the inclusive nature of the game,” she said.

She urged all passionate fans across the length and breadth of Nigeria to share in the excitement of the Trophy Tour represented by Heineken by engaging in all of its online and physical activation respectively.

Clarence Seedorf, while speaking said: “We have to bring the trophy closer to people who have given us the ability to enjoy our career, We are here to bring the dream and imaginations closer to the trophy to be able to lift the trophy like I did. It is beautiful to send this message to all fans to dream big, work hard, stay away from drugs and believe in yourself. That was why I was able to realize my dreams.”

Speaking during the event, Emmanuel Oriaki, the Marketing Director, Heineken, said Heineken always has something spectacular for Nigerians. According to him, the European Championship League is one of the best sporting activities in the world.

Oriaki said: “Heineken has been a partner with a European champion for quite a while in Nigeria; we have been doing this for quite a while. Heineken made a global lime light when it became a major sponsor of the European league in 1994, and since then both brands have strengthened the strategic partnership.”
