Guinness recalls Guinness 0.0 over fears of microbiological contamination

Guinness, the Diageo-owned brand, has urged customers not to consume its recently released non-alcoholic stout Guinness 0.0 over fears of possible microbiological contamination.

In an official statement, Guinness said: “As a precautionary measure we are recalling Guinness 0.0 in Great Britain because of a microbiological contamination which may make some cans of Guinness 0.0 unsafe to consume. Guinness0.0 currently is not on sale to the general public in Ireland.”

Launched in October, the product was developed by brewing Guinness exactly as they always have, using the same natural ingredients; water, barley, hops and yeast; then gently extract the alcohol through a cold filtration method to satisfy growing consumer appetite for non-alcohol, lower-calorie beverages.

“This was a precautionary measure due to a possible microbiological contamination which may make some cans of Guinness 0.0 unsafe to consume” the Company stated.

At the launch of the Guinness0.0, Aisling Ryan, Innovation Brewer at St James’s Gate explained in a statement: “Guinness has always had an unwavering commitment to quality and our entire brewing team is hugely proud of the care and effort that has been put into the four year development process for Guinness 0.0. We have created a taste experience that we believe is truly unrivalled in the world of nonalcoholic beer and we can’t wait for people to finally be able to try it.”

The issue is isolated to Guinness 0.0 and does not impact any other Guinness variants or brands.
