Buhari approves Free Knowledge Zone status for Ekiti State

Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has approved a free trade zone and investment status for Ekiti State, called Ekiti Knowledge Zone.
The approval was sequel to a request for the status by Niyi Adebayo, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment. In months to come Ekiti State capital will turn into a major economic hub.
According to Ifedayo Sayo, the Special Assistant to the Minister, on Media, Buhari’s approval was contained in a letter by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
The letter read: “Kindly note that Mr. President has granted free zone status approval for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone located along Ado-Ijan road, Ekiti State on a parcel of land measuring approximately 208.949HA with coordinates 8042765.02m’N;761’ 244.963m’ E, in accordance with Section 1 (1) of the NEPZA Act Cap. N107 Laws of Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.”
It would be recalled that, Prof Adesoji Adesugba, Managing Director, Nigeria Export Processing Zone Authority, during a visit to Biodun Oyebanji, Ekiti State Governor, expressed the Federal Government’s commitment to make Ekiti State a major free trade zone in Nigeria by supporting it in delivering economic and knowledge free zone where education-based industries and technological companies could operate from.
