Amazon diversifies offering, launches premium gin into the spirits market

To further show the path of its brand journey in the grocery sector, Amazon has introduced a premium gin brand into the spirits market. The premium drink under the brand name, Tovess, will retail for £24.99 and is described as offering a ‘smooth Mediterranean taste’ for fans of the distilled alcoholic drink.

Anyone wishing to sample the Birmingham-produced beverage will be required to show proof of age upon delivery with the e-commerce giant pledging to grow its offer with more products “… over the course of time”.

Amazon has been aggressively pursuing the grocery market since it snapped up Wholefoods in 2017. Since then it’s built out its Amazon Fresh food delivery business and is also establishing a brick and mortar presence via its frictionless Amazon Go offering.

The craft spirits sector is currently enjoying a sales boom driven by a new generation of independent distillers and novel flavour concoctions, especially in the UK.
