Alexander Goma takes over as CEO Grand Cereals, quits PZ
Alexander Goma, former Managing Director of PZ Cussons Consumer SBU and Executive Director PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc, has been appointed as the new MD Grand Cereals Limited, a subsidiary of UACN Plc.
Mr. Goma’s resignation from PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc first became public about a week ago. The company confirmed his departure in a notification sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). His resignation took effect from Monday, 30th September 2019.
At the time of his resignation, it was reported that Goma took the decision in order to pursue other personal endeavours. But MARKETING EDGE has now confirmed that it was a move aimed at enabling him to take up the Grand Cereals Limited job.
Grand Cereals Limited (GCL) is an integrated foods company whose primary activity is the creation of superior value from local raw materials, with leading brands in the Cereals, Vegetable Oil and Animal Feed categories.
In 1997, UAC of Nigeria Plc acquired a major shareholding in Grand Cereals Limited, located on a 16-acre site at Kilometre 17, Zawan Roundabout, Bukuru, Jos South, Plateau State, Nigeria. The company which was incorporated in 1983 was originally designed to produce baking flour from imported wheat. Following the ban placed on imported wheat, GCL modified its operation and production objectives, and today, this growing subsidiary of UACN Plc is steadfastly engaged in many value-added agricultural-based industrial activities.
The result of the acquisition is seen today in the current production and marketing focus of the company. GCL consistently delivers to consumers, high quality cereals, oils and feed, via the careful application of internationally acclaimed techniques to manufacture premium products.
Recall that in recent time, UAC which is one of the oldest conglomerates in Nigeria and top FMCG brand has been driving a repositioning effort to energise the brand and build more synergy between it and the consumers. This has led to several leadership changes, including the appointment of Mr Folasope ‘Fola’ Babasola Aiyesimoju as the new Group Managing Director/CEO of UAC of Nigeria Plc.
Goma is an experienced business leader with over 20 years of experience in building people, customers and brands from P&G, British American Tobacco and Guinness.
Goma served as the Managing Director of PZ Cussons Consumer SBU from September 2016. He also served as a Corporate Strategy and External Affairs Director in the company.
He holds a degree in Biochemistry from University of Port Harcourt (1989) and a Law degree from the University of London (2016). He is a faculty member of AGDC, an enterprise set of to prepare college graduates for employment or running their own company.
Goma started his career at Procter & Gamble in 1998 where he played the roles of Unit Sales Manager (North), District Manager and later Customer Service and Logistics Projects Manager of the company.
He then joined British American Tobacco where he held various positions of increasing responsibility within the organisation from 2003 till 2007 until he was employed at Guinness Nigeria Plc as Sales Director in 2007.
