NIMN intensifies Congress plans, cautions members against COVID-19 pandemic
The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has announced that it would be intensifying plans towards a successful staging of this year’s Annual Marketing Conference (AMC)/Annual General Meeting (AGM) despite the growing concerns regarding Corona Virus (COVID – 19) pandemic spreading across the globe.
The Institute said it was proceeding with plans towards the twin event which has been slated to hold between 16th and 17th of April, 2020 in Benin City, the Edo State Capital. It has, however, cautioned all members of the institute to ensure they keep to basic recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Federal Ministry of Health on the pandemic to keep safe.
In a statement signed by the President and Chairman of Council, Tony Agenmonmen, the institute cautioned all its members not be deceived by the misinformation that Coronavirus was a fluke, stressing rather that it was real and currently an existential threat to the world.
The statement added that the Council was closely monitoring the situation and would act decisively as necessary in the overall interest of the health and safety of everyone and the institute.
The Statement reads: “In the wake of the current developments with the Coronavirus pandemic, I wanted to touch base and bring you up to speed as it concerns our Annual Marketing Conference/Annual General Meeting already planned for Benin City from 16 to17 April 2020. Undoubtedly, these are profoundly unprecedented and uncertain times for our country and the world at large.
“Some of our members have made enquiries whether we are proceeding with the AMC/AGM as planned. For now, the planning for the AMC/AGM is proceeding as scheduled. However, I want to assure you that the Council is closely monitoring the situation and would act decisively as necessary in the overall interest of the health and safety of everyone and the Institute.”
The statement continues: “We would like to encourage all our members to keep to the basic hygiene recommendations of the WHO and the Federal Ministry of Health and be safe. Please do not be deceived by the misinformation that Coronavirus is a fluke. It is, indeed, real and currently an existential threat to the world.

Coronavirus is a respiratory disease that was first detected in China and which has now been detected in almost 70 locations internationally, including in the United States.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can spread from person to person. The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar in children and adults. However, children with confirmed COVID-19 have generally presented with mild symptoms.
The virus is called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 and it is abbreviated as SARS-CoV-2. The disease caused by an infection with SARS-CoV-2 is called COVID-19, which stands for coronavirus disease 19. COVID-19 is a type of coronavirus, a large family of viruses that cause infections in animals or people.
