Balsingh named new CEO of Airtel Nigeria

Airtel Africa has announced the appointment of Dinesh Balsingh as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria.

With this appointment, effective from November 1, Balsingh has officially joined Airtel Africa Group’s Executive Council.

The new CEO succeeded Carl Cruz, who assumed the position in May 2023, served for 17 months, and returned to his home country, the Philippines.

Balsingh has been a key figure within Airtel Nigeria, having been appointed Chief Commercial Officer in 2019. Before the appointment, he served as the company’s Marketing Director, showcasing his familiarity with the organization’s operations and strategic goals.

As the then Chief Commercial Officer, Balsingh was responsible for direct supervision of Airtel’s sales, distribution, marketing, customer service and regional operations functions.

He was also responsible for growing revenue market share, customer market share, brand development, customer experience as well as leading and driving innovation.

After serving meritoriously in that position, he was named the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Tanzania in 2022.

During his tenure in Tanzania, Balsingh reportedly led the company to record-breaking growth, leveraging innovative pricing strategies, enhanced product offerings, and disciplined execution.

His leadership resulted in significant gains in Revenue Market Share (RMS) within a highly competitive landscape.

With his latest appointment as MD/CEO of Airtel Nigeria, Balsingh, an alumnus of TSM in South Indian would be bringing to the table over 24 years of extensive experience in the telecommunications industry spanning the entire marketing spectrum including products, customer lifecycle management, data and content, revenue planning and brand.

His career in the telecomms sector began in 2000 with Hutchison Essar, followed by roles at Airtel India as Marketing Director in 2006 and Tata Docomo in 2011.

He joined Airtel Nigeria as Marketing Director in 2013, advancing to the position of CCO in 2018.
Balsingh holds a Master of Business Administration from Thiagarajar School of Management, a credential that complements his extensive industry expertise.

Sunil Taldar, CEO of Airtel Africa, while reacting to the appointment expressed confidence in Balsingh’s ability to drive growth in the Nigerian market.

According to him, Balsingh’s deep telecommunications experience and strong operational execution, combined with his knowledge of the Nigerian market, will be instrumental in further supporting the corporate purpose of transforming lives across Nigeria.
