GoldStar Power returns to Nigerian market after four years hiatus

GoldStar Power Limited, an Indian-based company that specializes in the production, assembly, distribution, and sales of batteries under the GoldStar brands has announced its return to the Nigerian market.
This is coming four years after the company exited the country due to the economic impact of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Speaking at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos during the West Africa Exhibition and Conference on Thursday, July 4th, its Export Head, Shadab Khan noted that the Nigerian environment is now ripe for the company to return and contribute to its development.
Khan stated that the challenge the brand is facing with the local market is that people are interested in products with low prices which has resulted in low-quality production by many companies. He said the 50-year-old GoldStar would not bend to do that.
According to him, the brand was in Nigeria between 2016 and 2020 but its distributor had some problems during the Covid-19 outbreak and that affected its importation and supply. But now it is back, starting to enter the market.
In his words: “The main problem with our product in Nigeria is that it is of good quality. You have to pay for that but in Nigeria; everyone seems to be interested in cheaper prices with low quality. That is what we are not interested in. So that is the reason we are a little bit late to re-enter Nigeria.
“Our second coming was to do long-time business, not just to sell products, repatriate profit, and take flight but to contribute to the economic development of the country by creating jobs. We see ourselves in Nigeria after 10 years as a respected brand in terms of quality, in terms of trust, in terms of relationships. That is our mission in Nigeria. Consumers will respect GoldStar because the quality of our products is of top-notch. We can’t trade quality for low prices,”
